Question Parallel Port Malfunction?

Recntly assembled new computer including ASUS PS5800 VM motherboard. Installed multiple operating systems, Windows XP, Me, and DOS 6.22 using System Commander. Everything works fine except when running DOS get error message "Unable to find ID module" which is required by one program, and which is connected to parallel port (PP). Prints to PP OK but if printer cable is disconnected, fails to return error message "printer not accepting data." Using Me, I get error message "unable to find scanner" which has been connected to PP. Bios provides four different configurations, "Normal", "BiDirectional", etc. for PP but same result for all. I have tentatively concluded that there is a problem with the ASUS motherboard, since the associated hardware and software works fine with the old computer. However I talked with a tech rep at ASUS who insists that as long as the port is able to send data to a printer the motherboad must be OK and the problem is elswhere. Where do I go from here? Many thanks for your help.

I think you may have a problem with your "ID Module" - which I assume is your software lock dongle. What happens with your printer and scanner if you disconnect it and hook up direct to the port?

Question Parallel Port Malfunction?

Sorry! I should have been more explicit. The other problems I noted are there even with the "dongle" removed. Namely, Windows Me is unable to find the scanner, even when connected directly to the parallel port, and no error message is received when I attempt to print in DOS with the printer cable disconnected. Thank you for your response!
