OK, first things first, i'm sorry if this is in the wrong part of the forum, this just seemed like the most suitable place...
I have a little problem, on one of my older PC's, as soon as i switch it on, it does a 'Memory Test', and i know most PC's do this but they take about 3 seconds tops, however, one of mine takes a good 5 minutes unless you manually skip it by pressing Esc. Is there some setting in BIOS or somewhere else, to reduce the time taken for the scan or to turn it off? Thanks for your help - MRW P.S. Someone built my older computer for me (I couldn't do it back then), and its done this scan on boot-up since i've had it (about 5 years) Specs (incase they're needed) AMD DURON 850mhz New WD 120gb HDD Windows XP Home SP2 If you need more, just let me know. |

Look in the BIOS for "quick bootup." But, some older machines just do this....

What Operating system are you running?
I had an old Compaq in the shop yesterday (running Win 98) that was doing the same thing. After formatting the drive and installing a new OEM version of XP, it stopped. -Kev

Woo, got it sorted!
I had a GOOD look through the BIOS settings, and found 'Quick power on self test', i enabled this, and now the memory test is 2 seconds long with no 'Esc' needed, yay! Thanks again for your help! - MRW |

FYI, the server had NT server on it. Now it has FreeBSD. So no worries since it doesn't need a reboot but once every few years. |

THEY, didn't work on my computer. I was working on theirs.
I am a repair tech. All I did was format the customer's drive and install a new OEM version of XP. The memory test now does not appear. I changed nothing in the customer's BIOS. -Kev |
