Sucess! Installing windows on a laptop with no cdrom

a little while back i made a post asking for instructions on installing windows 2000 on a laptop i have that has no cdrom. No one had a working solution for me, so I'm posting here how I did it, for those who might be in a similar situation.

My computer had windows 98 on it, I wanted to upgrade to 2000. It has no cdrom, but i do have a usb-cdrom (which you can't install from because the comp won't read usb devices until after windows loads.)

First, using partition magic, I partitioned off a couple GB of my free space into its own partition. THen i copied the entire windows cd onto that new partition. THen I installed off of that partition, doing the new installation on the original C: drive (but not erasing over the second partition I made).

It installed flawlessly. Now that windows 2000 is running, I can re-install partition magic, and merge the partitions back together.
