Backing up windows settings
Is there a way to back up the settings for windows xp pro and IE so that I can use them after I have installed a new HD and reinstalled the OS?
If so what files and where are they? Thanks |

You could use the free backup utility included w/ XP to backup everything in your profile's folder and the registry (system state).
Actually you could just backup your whole HD with it if you wanted.

The backup program is located in:
Start > Programs > Accessories > System Tools > BackUp When it starts hit the backup tab at the top and check the system state (at the bottom) and then drill down into your C: drive > Documents & Settings > and check the folder with your name. That would back up most things except for your program files (games and apps and such). If you want that you may have to backup your whole HD b/c some programs put files all over your PC. |

Both IE & FF favorites are in your username's profile folder. So they will be backed up with your other stuff.

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> System Tools -> File and Settings Trasfer Wizard
It can transfer settings in IE [not sure which ones] via direct connect or floppy. |
