Windows XP Home Recovery
Hello Everyone:
I was just asked by one of my roomates here at college if I could help them fix there laptop. Upon looking at it I realized that he is recieving the screen that asks you if you want to start windows normally and then proceeds directly to the blue screen of death and crashes and restarts. I can't read the blue screen as it crashes too fast. The only thing I was able to catch was a Windows Xp Problem. The computer is an HP Pavillion dv1000 running Windows XP Home (not sure of the SP), 1.30Ghz Celeron M processor and 512mb RAm. I tried to Run windows xp home repair from his home disk but it just come up to the black command prompt screen with C:/. It says to type exit if I want to exit repair console or type help to see a list of commands. I am not sure how to get the repair process to run. The only experiences I have had with repair was an automatic one. How would I go about getting the Repair going? Thanks Extreme

Instead of choosing repair, choose Setup. It will then search for an existing copy of Windows and give you a new choice screen - THERE is where you choose repair.

Okay here is the problem with that. When I hit enter to begin setup it examines the computer, then it brings up a screen with partition 1 and 2 and create partition. It says Enter to setup Windows XP, F3 to quit, D to delete partition and C to create partition. There is nothing there about repairing. Am I supposed to go ahead and hit enter? I don't want to wipe his laptop if I can help it.
Thanks Extreme. |

Nope - stop there. The installation is not repairable using that CD if that's the case.
