Write Protected Drives?
Ok, wierd problem has crept up on me. I have a PC with a 8gig drive as the boot drive. Then for video storage I have 400gb(2 200gb in raid). Then I have a network drive attached(via the network).
Somehow the c drive(8gig) and the network drive have become write protected. I can't delete files from either. Say it is write protected. I have Norton Ghost giving me errors because it can't backup the 8gig drive to the network drive. However, the video capture card is writing to the 400gig raid array just fine. The lastest thing that I have done is get this weeks Microsoft updates. The automatic stuff it reminds you about. I am having trouble finding info on this problem. Can anyone steer me in the right direction? |

Hey, a94cobra. Maybe these suggestions will help:
Try checking your bios, Run scandisk /fix errors on that partition download may have caused a fat table error, scan for virus, if newly installed, check the jumper settings. Make sure your account has the appropriate permissions to perform delete operations. Hope this helps. |

What would I check the BIOS for?
I ran scandisk and checked for spyware and virus. The machine has been up for two years. No hardware changes. I am logged in with admin settings, what could I check there? Where? |

I'm going with a microsoft recommendation here.
They recommend checking the NTFS permissions to make sure that your account has the proper privileges. being admin, you should have the proper privileges, but it doesn't hurt to check. I'm out of suggestions. You may try using the help and support tool included in XP, since you know exactly what is doing. |

Thanks for the link. Did some more searching. Found a tutorial on a program called xcacls.exe. Used it to check all the permissions. They were all set correctly. ?
What I found that fixed it. I took the network drive off line. Power cycled it. And after it powered up and reconnected, everything works right. Just can't figure out why it was effecting my drive C: though, on multiple machines. I had rebooted all the machines on the network more than once. I thought that would have done it. Anyway, thanks for helping. |

Well the bad news is the problem is back. And power cycling the drive isn't working this time.
