Lightbulb Xp Installation question

Hello! My harddrive is old and is only a 60 gb drive. I want to upgrade to a 300 gb drive w/sata. I have installed windows on this hardrive, do I have to get a new copy of windows for it to be genuine or what? Or do I just reinstall it under the same name I registered it under? Please help

You should be able to re-install windows using your same CD/license on the 300GB hdd. If you can find a way to ghost (or clone) all the data from the old drive to the new drive, it will make your life much easier... But as far as legality is concerned, re-installing to the new drive shouldnt be a problem.

If you are using xp, use the file and settings transfer wizard, or use norton ghost.

If you buy a WD, Seagate, or Maxtor drive, you can download free software to clone the drive.

I don't think you need to get a new copy of Windows. Just use Norton Ghost and rip the image over.

You could also just install windows on the new drive and then selectively transfer the files you want to keep to it and reinstall the programs you want.
That way you would be rid of all the junk that has accumulated over time.
Then reformat the old drive and it will be clean too.
It will take longer, but a good junk cleanout never hurts.

No, you do not have to go buy Norton Ghost. Did you read my post? WD, Seagate, and Maxtor have free downloadable utilities to set up hard drives and clone them. They call it drive to drive copy.

Nope, the license for the Dell Xp load is only good for the original Dell machine.
