Need help in windows installation

I have installed winxp on d: and win98 on c: , After installation when I booted my computer in win98, it asked me for the drivers of several hardwares in the Computer like PCI to PCI bridge, PCI System Management Bus, and several other things I donot remember.

One Technician told me that I should make a backup of all the drivers from my Motherboard CD into my Computer, and after booting the system on win98,I should give the path of the location where I made the backup of all the drivers(like Audio,Lan and etc) of MotherBoard CD.

But the problem is that I donot know how to install drivers for these hardwares. What is PCI to PCI bridge ? What is PCI System Management Bus?

Even after giving the path of the location of backed up drivers , I am not able to install the drivers for these devices.

How to get drivers for these things?

Another thing that I want to tell is that , When I check the status of hardware in device manager, I see exclamation point on "Primary IDE Controller(Single info)" and on "Standard IDE/ESDI Hard Disk Controller"

My CD-ROM is installed on Primary Master and HDD on Secondar Master.

My Motherboard is D850MV.

Any help would be appreciated.

Am I really not able to find drivers for these devices or the drivers are not available in the backup I made.

Forgot to tell that when I booted my system in win98, when it asks for the drivers of several hardware devices, I was giving the path of windows folder where I think the database of win98 drivers is located so that it could search the drivers for these devices in it and install it itself, but that didnot prove anything good, because when I checked the device manager, i saw that it installed the drivers compatible with ms-dos mode .

I am pretty much confused with it.

Any help

Hi ITlover

Intel still has the drivers for that board available for most versions of Windows on it's website. Here's the link http://www.intel.com/design/motherbd/mv/mv_drive.htm

If you are using more than 512mb of ram in that system, you might want to consider making the vcache adjustment in system.ini http://www.mysuperpc.com/pmu/out_of_memory.shtml

Sometimes Windows 98 has trouble with cpus faster than 2ghz during the installation - but you would have seen an error message during the install (concerning NDIS), so you are probably OK there. If that error did appear in your installation, see this article http://support.microsoft.com/default...b;en-us;312108

All the devices you mentioned as flagged in Device Manager are motherboard/chipset components. Installing the drivers from Intel should fix that.

Best of luck
. . . Gary
