Stack Overflow Messages
I'm running XP with SP 2, and IE 6.0.29 on my Gateway, periodically I get Stack Over Flow messages, Stacks with 70's numbers, 90's numbers and a few in the thousands. The 70's and 90's come up when I'm on Ebay, the others when on the Best Buy/ Circuit City sites.
I have cleaned out my Temp Internet Files, but the problem persists. On the other hand, my lap top with the same software does not act this way. Any thoughts on corrective action short of a shot gun blast? Thanks, Bob |

Are all critical Windows updates installed? Have you done thorough malware scans?

Hi TallBob
Here's the link to the version of Windows Update for XP http://update.microsoft.com/windowsu....aspx?ln=en-us If the above link to Windows Update doesn't work on your system, there is a chance your system has at some point been infected. Malware = unwanted programs, viruses, worms, trojans, keyloggers, etc. Anything that installs itself on your system without your approval. If your connection to the Internet is stable enough to try an online scan for such malware pests, visit an online scanner to double-check your locally installed antivirus/antispyware programs. I put links to three popular sites below. Panda ActiveScan http://www.pandasoftware.com/actives...f=EN-PR-AS-107 TrendMicro HouseCall http://housecall.trendmicro.com Ewido online scan http://www.ewido.net/en/onlinescan/ __________________ Stack Overflow errors can be caused by many things: and there are exploits that try to take advantage of such vulnerabilities (this is why Windows Udate was recommended - there are patches that help lessen the vulnerabilities). If you installed a new program just before seeing the Stack Overflow problem appear, uninstall the program & see if that clears it up. If so, and if you still would like to be able to use the program - without such errors - see if there's an updated version or a patch posted at the website of the software company that authored it. Best of luck . . . Gary |
