You will need XP Pro to use Terminal Services. If you have it, just check the box on your System Properites > Remote tab to allow you to receive connections. You will then need to forward port 3389 on your router to the local IP of your computer. You can find out your local IP by going to the command prompt (Start > Run > cmd) and typing "ipconfig".

If you want to use the built-in "Remote Desktop" tool in Windows XP Professional, see the tutorials below [they all cover much of the same ground, some in more technical detail, some in less].
Note that Remote Desktop is not available in XP Home Edition, however there is a tool called "Remote Assistance", which can allow techs to connect to your computer for repairs & such. I've included links to instructions for that as well. Remote Desktop (WinXP Pro) http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/u...moteintro.mspx http://www.windowsnetworking.com/j_helmig/wxprmdtp.htm http://www.windowsnetworking.com/art...ws-XP-Pro.html Remote Assistance http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=300546 . . . and here's a site that has a full slew of tutorials and articles on every possible thing you could ever imagine knowing about these two tools: http://labmice.techtarget.com/window...te_desktop.htm Best of luck . . . Gary [too funny - I type waaaay too slowly. Just saw the two posts ahead of mine - sorry for any overlaps! ...] |
