error message file system32\hal.dll missing or corrupt

Hello all ....Have a dual boot Win2K/XP and use mostly Win2K.....the other day went to boot Xp and got the error message system32\hal.dll missing ? so I put in my Xp cd Did the Recovery thing and ran chkdsk /p c:twice still not working ....Do I have to do a copy command from the cd Not sure ?????

Are you able to boot from the CD? At what point are you getting the access denied message?

It goes imto setup and after you enter the recovery console and enter the command expand line it says access denied
