SERVICE.EXE - umpnpmgr.dll

Hi,

I have been trying, unsuccessfully, to install a newer driver for my graphics card - after installation I get the error message 'failed to initialize video card' - even though the install seemed to go ok.

Now I have had my computer restart and got the blue screen:
MACHINE_CHECK_EXCEPTION
Stop: 0x0000009C ...

I restarted and now all I get is:
SERVICE.EXE
This application has failed to start because umpnpmgr.dll was not found

or another time it said it was corrupt.

I have tried restarting in safe mode but all I get is a black screen!

Help wuld be gladly accepted.

"umpnpmgr" looks to be a plug n play driver. If it is missing or corrupt you will probably have to boot into the recovery console and extract it from the cd.

Hi,

thanks for your reply.

I did that. I rebooted from the Windows XP OS CD and ran a repair. During this process I got this message:

COM+ Setup Error
Sub-component COM+ raised an exception while processing the OC.COMPLETE_INSTALLATION setup message
d:\nt\com\comlx\src\complussetun\comsetup\csetuputil.cpp(line 3406)
Error code = 0x8007007f
The specified procedure could not be found
Failed to load the library c:\windows\system32\catsrv.dll

When I got back to my desktop I found that my internet connection was gone so I reinstalled from my original virgin.net adsl broadband cd. But no connection was created in the networks connection - the only connection that appears is the 1394 connection. I have checked in driver manager and the modem is recognised and tells me the driver is up to date. The adsl modem is working, and it is recognised by xp - but I cannot make a connection.
When I go to network connections and try to create a new connection all the options are greyed out. I have checked to see if all windows network components are installed and they are.
When I try to make a connection through dialup prefsI get
Error 711: a configuration error in this computer is preventing this connection.

Any further ideas, please?

(By the way, I contacted virgin.net technical support and they finally decided my only option was to do a complete system reinstall because the repair I did has wiped all my system restore points)

I didn't know you could get back into your install, you made it sound like you couldn't. Plus I suggested you go into the recovery console, not do a repair. However, after all you have done I am thinking you may have to do a complete reinstall. Might as well start fresh. Backup your files before reformatting and reinstalling. Good lUck.
