Need batch file
I have my computer connected to the DSL and to a router. It distributes the connection to the family PC in the living room. I want a batch file that instructs my computer to immidiately connect to the internet. I connect to the internet by double clicking on a Dial-Up (I have dsl) connection and then clicking "connect" on the new window. The user name and password is saved. Is there a particular batch file that instructs the computer to automatically carry out this step - connecting or opening the connection and then connecting to the internet ?
thanks!

Put your dsl login program in the startup folder and there should be a check box on the login screen to save password and connect automatically. How are you sharing to the other PC?? I assume your using ICS, and if so, when you can you might consider a router which will always be connected, gives you firewall protection, and will handle the sharing much better than ICS.. The main PC would not then have to be on all the time for the other PC to get on the net.

ktkendall, where is the start up folder? I dont see it in c:\ or c:\windows
I am sharing the internet ocnnection via a Belking Pre-N via Ethernet (my dsl modem uses USB directly to my computer). What does ICS stand for again? I agree that gettin a LinkSys (the latest one or so) will allow the connection to always be shared, but I got this router for free and would like to avoid buying the one wihch will always keep the connection shared. I never shut down my computer( the one connected to the router and the dsl modem), so the connection should always be distributed, and in that rare instance when the computer shutsdown, my family simply calls me and I ask them to turn my computer on. They cant access the "connect to" because I use a password to access my PC (at start up or by pressing the windows key + L). So thats why I want the batch file (or your method once I figure it out). |

Ok found the start up file.
I could not cut and paste the connection into the start up folder, so I made a shortcut and placed it in the start up folder. |

I restarted the computer, reached the windows log in page. Put my password in, windows loaded, internet was not connected. I had to as usual manually click on the "dial" button.
