Win XP Product Key Help
I have a spare computer that has a sticker with its Win XP Product Key. The OS for the computer got fried by viruses, etc. I don't have a disk for that computer, but I do have a Win XP disk for another. I'm trying to find if there is a way of using my disk to activate XP on my spare computer. I tried to do it and it said it wasn't valid. I started to give up but just wanted to know if I might be missing something.
Thanks in advance, Baba |

Yes you can use a different cd PROVIDED it is the same Retail Version or OEM verion.
Meaning, if the cd is a Retai copy and the sticker is for an OEM copy, it won't work.

It actually has Ubuntu on it right now. My in-laws need a new computer, and they are wanting one with windows. Me being the great son-in-law that I am I was trying to oblige. |

Is the computer with the COA sticker... is that a proprietary company such as Dell, HP, etc? If it is, your Windows XP CD will NOT work. If it is a another COA, then it should work. What do you mean the XP installation won't be validated? If you need to activate it, call the toll-free # it gives you. Microsoft will give you a new activation key which will allow you to install.
