I was so excited to hook up my mx5000, so i go through the install step by step, and the it stays on the connect screen for an hour. I call logitech and the same thing happens, then they tell me to go into run, and type regedit. but instead of a menu i get a black box saying c:\windows\system32\regedit.com
and then the black box is empty. I think this may be messing up the install, also, I get these to error messages everytime i restart System32.exe Windows cannot find 'system32.exe'. Make sure you typed the name correctly and then try again. To search for a file, click the start button, and then click search. and right after that i get mm_tray.exe-unable To Locate Component This application has failed to start because MFC71U.DLL was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem. I checked for spyware, nothing, viruses, nothing. I dont know whats going on, this is preventing me from gaming so i would really appriciatcaite some help. |

It sounds like you need to repair XP, if that's what you're using.

I searched for Windows cannot find 'system32.exe' and came up with this which seemed weird>>
You receive a "Cannot find C:\Windows\System32\System32.exe" warning message when you start Windows XP http://support.microsoft.com/kb/833767/en-us CAUSE This issue occurs because of an incomplete removal of the W32.KWBot.C.Worm virus from your computer.

Not weird at all, it happens when the anti-virus program deals with one of the "compound" threats that contains some spyware variants as part of it's package.
The virus gets cleaned but the damage to the registry isn't healed. |

Instructions here : http://forum.pcmech.com/showthread.php?t=151522 but wait on this till later. Go into safe mode, that's F8 at start-up with network connection. Disable system restore. You will enable it when you're done. Run disk cleanup. and makesure you empty the temp folder. Run a full system scan again and also run housecall : http://www.trendmicro.com/hc_intro/default.asp Since it's a compound threat restart the computer, in safemode, and run the spyware scanners as well. Since the worm/virus damages the registry, and it's aim is to keep you from getting into the registry, try regedit again when you restart the compute, you're still using safemode (yes you could use msconfig but if it's blocking you from regedit it may have messed with that as well so F8 is the more certain choice). If it's still no go then read and follow the instructions for the repair install. When that's done scan again and enable system restore. Last edited by pam123; 03-09-2006 at 05:45 PM. |
