I had this problem with Windows Explorer on XP..Every time I opened it and try to select a folder or file, the Windows Explorer displays an error message prompting you to close the application...Could it be has to do with patches..mine has SP2..Any information would be greatly appreciated...

Does it happen after a reboot?
Are you right clicking on the folder to open it?
Which folder is it?

1. Does an error message appear? If so, please provide it.

2. When did the problem begin? Can you associate the onset to the installation, upgrade or removal of a program, to include Windows updates or your AV program?

3. What happens in safe mode?

4. Anything in event viewer, system and applications?
start > run
type: eventvwr.msc
ok
Please provide: service, event id and description

5. Anything in Windows Error Reporting?
start > run
type: msinfo32
ok
on the left, left click on "+" to the left of "software environment"
left click on WER
