Blue Screen

I got a Blue Screen in XP Pro SP2 that won't go away. Very occasionally I've gotten them, but a simple cold reboot would fix it.

"A problem has been detected and Windows has been shut down.... *** Stop: 0x0000007E (etc." There are NO drivers or anything listed after the codes.

I did a quick RAM test. Everything checked out OK.

I'm running XP Pro with all updates with SP2. many anti-spam programs runn, AV, and ZoneAlarm.

I can dual boot into Windows 2000, so that rules out a hardware issue.

Windows will get to the point right before it displays the login and blue screens.

I first got a BSoD in Safe mode, then get in with Safe Mode.

I tied choosing "last good" and still blue screen.

What can I do next?

P.S. I'm also getting the following when booting: "BIOS update data incorrect. (CPUID=00000673). Update not loaded."

Welcome to PCMech. Are you getting that BIOS message any time you turn the computer on (before selecting the dual boot choice)? Had you recently tried flashing your BIOS?

I do see it each time I boot up.
I have not done a reflash of the BIOS.

Grrr, it's a no name, generic.
PIII 575 mhz, that's all I know.

I have not pulled it apart yet.

Would the BIOS message be that it hasn't saved for some reason? I had to go into the BIOS to change the boot order so that it would boot from the floppy to run a RAM test.

At this point, I can still log into W2000, but not even Safe Mode Command prompt mode. It either BSoD or hangs on loading drivers.

Not looking too good. The bios is probably getting corrupted, and we gotta figure out the board so it can be flashed.

Hmmm, why would the BIOS get corrupted like that?

I may just bring it in to my local computer place and have them look at it.
It's just strange that W2k loads, but nothing with XP OS.
