Fat32 is what exactly???
When you reformat a HD and put XP on it fresh your given 4 options Fat32, fat 32 (quick) NTFS and Ntfs (quick)...I think those are the options, if not I'm sure you all know what I"m talking about. What do they mean and what do I want to do?
Thanks |

FAT32 and NTFS are filesystems that XP can read or write to.
As EzyStvy mentioned, NTFS is the recommended filesystem for XP; it brings a lot more stability and extra features for the storage of your files that is sorely lacking in the older FAT systems. Unless you have a compelling reason not to, go with NTFS. Regarding the quick and regular methods of formatting, when you choose QUICK, it merely formats the filesystem for you with the regular format, it also does a diskcheck - which should take more time than the other. Go with QUICK unless you suspect that you may have drive errors. |
