Strange Problem with computer

I have a Premio cpu 500 mhz Celeron (don't laugh, you'll be old and slow one day) on my bench with the strangest problem. It will boot into both modes but I have to hit Ctl-Alt-Delete to make it go into regular mode. After I do the three finger salute it runs fine. This computer has 384 megs ram and is running xp Pro. It just started this today and has not been connected to the internet to get a bug. Safe mode does not have this problem. Does anyone have any ideas?

TIA

Hmm. That is interesting. I would suggest doing a repair install of XP. Or even backing up all the important data from the harddrive and doing a full reformat in re-install which would clean up the system and would probably run faster than before. But before going to that trouble, wait and see if someone else has a better solution. Those are just how I would tackle the issue as it would yield the best overall results. (disregard this after reading below)

EDIT - Aha... I think I might have found something. This appears to be a method which is used to 'prevent trojrans from running' as a security measure. There is apparently an option under "the User Accounts Control Panel, and click the Advanced tab. Under Secure Logon, uncheck the option Require users to press Ctrl+Alt+Delete. Then click OK."

found that here - http://forums.pcworld.co.nz/archive/...p/t-29176.html which is telling how to set it up so that you DO have to hit ctrl alt del to login. So reverse the steps.
