os problems

well when ever i try to play music it says did not download media and pluss i can't install anything on my system pluss there is no sound icon on my task bar and if you are wondering i am useing Windows 2000 professional and i was also wondering if the os was used on different computers would that cause an error to occure while putting it on my computer
and it says when ever i try to play a song it says can not play back the audio stream no audio hardware is available or the hardware is not responding

This sounds like a problem with your sound card or drivers. Are you able to hear sound in other applications (games etc..).

If not access the device manager by:

- Right click 'My Computer'
- Select the 'Harware' tab
- Click 'Device Manager'

Scroll down the list to see if there are any with yellow or red icons next to them. If there are double click them and look at the device status.
