98SE, Gateway, I Formatte, reload and big troubles follow.

Some time ago I had troubles with some unknown problem in my software. GLC suggested I Re-init, Format and reload.
That got my whole 10G drive back. I was amazed.

When I made the drive one big Dos Partition, and formatted the Partition, and reloaded the W98SE, I was plagued with a bunch of stuff that wouldn't work.

A guy finally clued me in, that W98SE does not have a 256 Color Video Driver, or Sound card driver.
He got the Video driver from Gateway for me.

He also got the Sound card driver but it wont work. It's locked in a loop of Zip/unZip and I cant seem to get it to get out of the loop.

My W98SE CD does not have the Games! What a Rip. I was in love with FreeCell. Where's that? I thought that was part of Windows?

What's next?

Do I go to the MSN site and download a bunch of stuff?
If I do that, can I copy it to a CD? (since the MSN site is dropping support of 98)

PS: I think my CD burner is broke. The Green or yellow light stays blinking for a good long time. It also slows down or stops the Hard Drive. I unplugged the CDRW.

Will I get FreeCell back if I copy the updates?

I have tried copying some of the MSN stuff before, and never could see where it made a difference. When the site says "Checking to see which updates your software needs...." it never comes up with anything for 98, just for 2000 or XP.

Do I need any Internet Explorer upgrades?

Download the sound driver set again. Sometimes they get corrupted.

SE has games. But you have to tell them to load. Loading afterwards is start>settings>controlpanel>add/remove>setuptab>accessories>games

also, in win98 the games are installed by clicking add remove programs
then windows setup
then find games and click that
if the cab files (the content of the Win98 directory of the CD) are not on the hd (many times when you are guided through an install they will advise you to copy that folder of the cd to your hard drive)
if your cab files are not on the hard drive under C:|Win98 or
perhaps c:Windows\Options\Cabs
then
you will need your 98SE cd in a Working cd rom drive
