windows XP and AVG

Hello People..........Has any one experienced something that I have the other day ..Installed XP on a Gateway computer ,then installed all updates....after that AVG and all of its updates when I boot the computer I get a message there is" no disk in the drive " with the cancel ,retry, and continue options ...If I cancel twice it goes away and everything is fine .....when AVG is removed the message does not appear ,so I loaded zonealarm and the same message appears ????
when I got home I tried the same thing on another computer and spare Hard drive ...no problems the only difference being I did not do all the updates on XP....DUH !!!!!

That's strange.
Is the HDD first in the boot order on that Gateway or have you left the cd-rom first?
If the latter do a switch and see what happens.

What are the specs for that system (model #)?
Is it one of those where they put security programs in the bios that XP is supposed to hook into and that you have to disable first if you want to use something else?

Does the "no disk" error message give any indication of which drive letter it is looking for?

I'd wonder if a boot-time virus scan is looking for a removeable disk to scan - in USB, Optical drive, or floppy diskette.

. . . Gary

[P.S. ... I've also seen mention of some users able to resolve the problem by uninstalling & then reinstalling either ZoneAlarm or AVG]

change the boot order to the hard drive first and that should fix the problem.
at least try it.

I may be wrong here but I think what is going on is that avg will do a boot sector check the very first thing on boot up and if the cd is set as the first boot device and there is no cd in the drive it would come up with that error.
by changing the bios to boot from the hard drive first it can complete it test and continue on with the normal boot process.

the reason I am thinking that is I have a old system, p333, and its running 2000-pro, and I can actually see avg do the boot sector virous test at boot up, it opens a dos window to complete the test and only takes a second to complete it.
