SCSI instead of EIDE
Weird situation. I think I have an idea of what's wrong but wanted to hear from other people. First off, I'm having a problem burning video DVDs with Nero. It keeps failing and giving me an error -1065. After looking in the logs it says stuff about SCSI and shows "KEY_ILLEGAL_REQUEST". I thought that was fine myself because I'm not using any SCSI devices. After wasting 3 DVDs I looked around online to see what the cause might be. I couldn't find anything about -1065, but I found programs that could help me with the booktype (apparently this error had to do with booktypes). Those programs wouldn't work properly either, but one of them mentioned making sure the DVD+RW drive was set to DMA. Looking at the device manager I'm seeing that all my drives are being recognized as SCSI devices. What the heck?
2 hard drives show like: IC35L 120 AVV207-1 SCSI Disk Device MDT MD10 00JB-00CRA1 SCSI Disk Device CD writer shows this: RW-523252 SCSI CdRom Device DVD writer shows: _NED DVD+RW ND-1100A SCSI CdRom Device I tried flashing my DVD writer, but the utility isn't recognizing the drive. I've burned many CDs and a handful of DVDs with it, I don't understand what's going on now. System specs: Athlon XP 3000+ 1500 MB RAM HDD1 115 GB HDD2 93.1 GB

I hope that u using corect cable for DVD and CD (40 pin one)?
http://www.microsoft.com/whdc/device...e/IDE-DMA.mspx To enable DMA mode using the Device Manager 1. Open Device Manager. 2. Double-click IDE ATA/ATAPI Controllers to display the list of controllers and channels. 3. Right-click the icon for the channel to which the device is connected, select Properties, and then click the Advanced Settings tab. 4. In the Current Transfer Mode drop-down box, select DMA if Available if the current setting is "PIO Only." If the drop-down box already shows "DMA if Available" but the current transfer mode is PIO, then the user must toggle the settings. That is: • Change the selection from "DMA if available" to PIO only, and click OK. • Then repeat the steps above to change the selection to DMA if Available. Hi macko, yes, I had already tried that (before I found out it was being seen as SCSI) and I just got a box similar to one you might see looking at the properties for a networked computer, just a box saying what the item is, no properties or any other explanation/info, only a graphic and a generic name for the device.
glc, I'll try doing that. I had thought it might have to do with the Windows software (I'm running Windows XP w/ SP2, sorry for not mentioning that before), but I didn't really want to reinstall the OS. |

That seemed to do the trick, glc. I wouldn't have thought bad mobo drivers would cause that kind of mess, but sure enough... thanks for the help.
