one mouse click = double (sometimes )

feel free to move this to an appropriate section.
I am using XP pro.

sometimes when i click with my mouse (G7) it acts as if i double clicked. this is super annoying.
it doesn't happen all the time.
for example, i could be clicking over files (one by one) when suddenly out of nowhere one of the files opens.
this is especially vexing when using the "back" or "up one level" buttons as i click once and find myself lost (expecting to be somewhere else).

any suggestions?

Macko, what do you mean by that? That's not a suggestion how to fix it.

That's a pretty slick (and top-rated) cordless mouse. If you haven't been into the Advanced menus, have a look in there & see if the click-assignments are all just the way you like them (I imagine these came with your recent G7 drivers, but if for some reason they didn't come with the Advanced menus, they are available here [ http://logitech-en-amr.custhelp.com/...i=&p_topview=1 ]). In the Windows Control Panel applet for your mouse, you also can try a few adjustments.

Funky cordless mouse behaviour can also happen due to low batteries, and since the G7 is optimized for gaming, it's average battery charge is only 8 hours or less [it does have the extra battery for quick swaps, though].

Best of luck

Perhaps you need to shorten the time for double-click in the mouse software.

the problem is that it's not a constant behavior.
i could be selecting files (one by one) and then suddenly one click behaves like a double click and a file will run/open.
sometimes this happens on the first click, sometimes after many.
very annoying.

If you bought the mouse at a local store with a generous exchange policy, you could simply try exchanging it for another - since it's possible it's a hardware issue (one of the springs in your left-click button might be flaky, for example).

Another way to test this - is to try the mouse on another computer (it'd be easy to do on a laptop, for instance). If the behavior is the same there - it's possibly just a hardware fault on the Logitech.

i seriously doubt that it is a hardware problem.
the button feels just right and it's hard to explain but i can sense that it's not a physical factor.
it happens faster than what i think the spring is capable of.

trying it on another computer is a good idea though.
i'll try it in the lab on monday.

on a side note, the mouse looks and feels good but i'm not sure it was worth the price.

I had a Logitech optical mouse that did that...one left click would seem like a double click. Tried it on a few other computers and same thing so I tossed it out and bought a new one...problem solved.

Got to chime in here.

I had the same mouse, did the same thing. I turned it in for a new one and the problem went away.

after pondering the situation some more, and tapping on the mouse buttons a thousand times today, i'm beginning to believe that it may indeed be a hardware problem.

Kev, your experience makes it most likely that i have a faulty mouse. did you just show up at the store where you bought it or did you contact logitech?

They made you send it back? They usually just send out a new one and tell you to throw the bad one away.

I wasn't upset before but i am now.
yes, they made me send it back. maybe i should have argued with them.
the tech guy tried everything he could before finally agreeing to rma.
"what version of software?" (a hundred times)
"go to control panel..."
"go to device manager..."
"what are you wearing..?" (not really, but almost)
my reply to everything (after complying) was "it's not a software problem on my computer, it's a faulty device".
