legal question
Hi ,
I have a computer with pre installed software and I stupidly fdisked it. now i have no os. I see on ebay that you can buy win xp home discs without product keys. Question 1: could i buy a disc and load it on my computer and use the product key that is on a sticker for the preloaded os? Question 2 is it legal to do this and will the updates work? |

It's legal and ok as long as:
1. your version is the Home version 2. you can't mix oem cd's with retail keys (or the other way around)

check with the vendor /maker of your computer to see if you can get a recovery CD.

I second flanzig1's suggestion, you are likley for roughly the same cost going to get a better copy than on Ebay. By better copy I mean your vendor will supply on the copy all your PC's drivers and if the one you end up getting from EBAY is a burnt copy you will never know what is in the image (ie spyware etc) - I'd sure hate to only have an infected OS disk.
What is the PC - make and model?- and we can help find the cost
