pop ups etc

I have just installed xp pro on my pc and I am amazed at the number of pop up adverts whenever I access the internet. Sometimes there are as many as 5 or 6 at once, I have installed firefox web browser thinking this would stop them but explorer still seems to take over and swamp the screen with popups. Any advice would be apreciated. Apart from this every thing is going well.

You need some anti-malware software to help keep your computer free of spyware.

SpywareBlaster

Ewido

Windows Defender

Spybot: Search & Destroy

Ad-Aware

If you are using Firefox, download the fasterfox extension and take advantange of it's built in popup blocker, also.

It sounds like those popups are not generated by any browser, but by adware(spyware) programs running on the system. Run the programs recommended by Cricket and see if you're still getting them afterwards. If you're still getting them, it may be time to post a HijackThis log.

Just curious, but do you have the popup blocker in Firefox enabled?
Double check the setting just to be sure.
