networking in virtual pc

i have a windows xp computer running virtual pc 2004. the guest OS in question is windows server 2003 running sharepoint.

i can get to the internet from the guest OS, but i cannot see the host computer, nor can the host see the guest. since i am trying to get sharepoint running on this, it is imperative that i at least see sharepoint on the host (this is merely for testing right now, we want to get it all figured out before buying a server exclusively for this).

any ideas on why these two cannot see each other?
