rolling back...?
Ok... i have WinXP Pro SP2... and I want to roll it back to SP1. I know it would be easier to just re-install using the original disk, but I don't have it. Is it possible to roll roll back to SP1 without needing the install disk?

why don't you explain what you're trying to achieve and maybe someone here can help you achieve it.
what is the reason you want to roll back to sp1?

A while back, i was messing around with the internet explorer files and i deleted them. I didn't think noting of it, because i don't even use IE.
I'm trying to update my video drivers and it requires me to install .Net Framework 1.1. But i can't do that because the microsoft automatic update feature for WnXP doesn't seem to work without IE...... I've tried everything to reinstall IE. My friend suggested to rollback to SP1 and see if that works, but I didn't think it was possible. Maybe if I knew a way to reinstall those IE files that I deleted (all of them) then i can avoid a rollback. |

SP1 will assume you have IE as well. Unfortunately, you definitely need the install CD unless you can find a download on MS's site just for IE.
Maybe try doing a simple file copy from one machine which has all the files to your machine? I don't know if that would work though... |

You should be able to uninstall SP2 if you manually installed it and it wasn't part of a streamlined install. In that case, there should be an entry for it in Add/Remove programs, but I guess that was the first thing you tried, right ?
![]() Anyway there's another way to fix things if you have the cd that was used to install XP. If you installed Windows XP without any service packs, you need a cd that does that. If your initial install was from a cd with SP1 included, you'll need one of those. Same for SP2. When you boot from the setup cd, you should get the option to do a repair installation. This repair installation will simply reinstall all system files, including IE, and it'll leave all your other programs installed. If you only get the option to do a regular install, it won't work and that's usually because you're using a wrong setup cd. |
