changing user in XP PRO
I have recently changed my mobo and reinstalled XP PRO. all went OK but suddenly when logging off and changing user the screen goes blank and nothig happens I have to rebootand select 2nd user. if I leave things it eventually goes back to original user
It was working OK after i first reinstalled XP for about a week any ideas? Last edited by Dulux; 03-31-2006 at 07:22 AM. Reason: spelling |

Hi Dulux
A few questions: 1) Do you see any related errors when checking in Event Viewer? [in the Control Panel's "Administrative Tools"] 2) Have you visited Windows Update since the reinstall? If not, try that, too. 3) Any errors about profiles not unloading? There's a patch that helps (which installs the "User Profile Hive Cleanup Service") -- http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/d...displaylang=en 4) Check through your XP Services (also available in Administrative tools) to make sure all the dependent services that "Fast User Switching" needs to have running are setup OK. There's a good guide to XP services over at the Elder Geek website. And I think ForceFlow's article on tuning XP might have mentioned a few, too. 5) Does the same non-responsive hang occur when you try switching users in Safe Mode? Seems like you should come across a clue in the Event Viewer. Let us know what you find. . . . Gary |
