drive letters??????????

Hi, just having a few problems at the mo.

I installed a new hard drive into my computer making it the master drive and the old hard drive the slave.

But now the master drive is labelled as e and the second drive as f and g (two partitions) where as my zip drive is c

How can I change my drive letter back to what they were?

Also when shutting down the system, I get this error message.

“The drive is not ready to use; its door may be open. Please check drive a: and make sure that a disk is inserted and that the drive door is closed”

Cancel Try again Continue

After that instead of the computer shutting down automatically the light flashes on the on/off button and I have to press it to turn the computer off.

Any help would be grateful.

Regards, Caine

Could you describe how you have your drives set up? SATA or PATA? What is on what channel, how are the drives jumpered?

It sounds like when you installed the new drive, you moved a few things around that screwed up the drive order. You want the new hard drive to be the master on the primary IDE channel.

Unfortunately, the easiest way to get your C drive back is start over with a fresh Windows install, with no other drives except the CD connected until after the install is complete.
