windows cd

Hi,
I recently purchased a dell xps desktop for home use but I did not ask for the windows xp cd. I also have a laptop from work, also a dell inspiron, that has the cd. Can I use the laptop version on the home desktop? The both are running XP with Media Center, I actually wanted to use it to just install IIS on my desktop, but it needs the Windows cd.

Thanks.

you could use it if you wanted to install IIS, if it will actually read it, but if you were going to re-install windows you wouldnt be able to since the other copy will no doubt be OEM

Yes, those are interchangeable. They are not customized, they just have a thing that prevents installation if it doesn't see a Dell bios. If you ever have to use the laptop CD to do a full reinstall on the desktop, you would have to use the desktop's product key.
