windows cd
Hi,
I recently purchased a dell xps desktop for home use but I did not ask for the windows xp cd. I also have a laptop from work, also a dell inspiron, that has the cd. Can I use the laptop version on the home desktop? The both are running XP with Media Center, I actually wanted to use it to just install IIS on my desktop, but it needs the Windows cd. Thanks. |

you could use it if you wanted to install IIS, if it will actually read it, but if you were going to re-install windows you wouldnt be able to since the other copy will no doubt be OEM

Yes, those are interchangeable. They are not customized, they just have a thing that prevents installation if it doesn't see a Dell bios. If you ever have to use the laptop CD to do a full reinstall on the desktop, you would have to use the desktop's product key.
