IE encountered a problem and needs to CLOSE
I hope someone here can help me with this because I am a bit confused. My cousins rig consist of an ASUS A7N8X with a XP2500. He was only running 256MB of DDR400 so we decided that we would upgrade to 1GB of DDR400 and while we were at it he decided on going to a black case. So I removed all the parts and then put them back in the new case along with the new memory upgrade. He decided that he wanted to make the jump to XP instead of Win2k which is what he was running. So I loaded XP SP2 and a couple other applications that he uses and it installed and ran rock solid. I didn't have much time left so he decided that he would take it home and connect it to the internet to do updates and what not. He uses Netzero dial-up at home and was able to use the machine for about two days. He then calls me a few days later and says that he keeps on getting "IE has encountered a problem and needs to close." This is the other information from the error:
AppName: ieplorer.exe AppVer: 6.0.2900.2180 Modname: Unknown ModVer: 0.0.0.0 Offset:00184fd0 Exception Information: Code:0xc0000005 He states that he is getting these left and right and sometimes it even kicks him offline. Here's what we have done so far: -OS updates -Ran ad-aware, spybot -Currently running a online scan at trend micro -Ran 4 hours of Memtest86 to elimate a bad ram module since we just bought it. He was still getting them by just going to sites like yahoo and hotmail. I was doing search and saw a post where one person went to TOOLS>INTERNET OPTIONS>ADVANCED and disabled THIRD PARTY BROWSER EXTENSIONS. I told him to try that and he says that the error has gone away or at least it has not come up. I have a hijack log and while I am not the best at looking at these, it looks clean. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated since he needs to have a stable internet connection for school and work. Here is the log: Logfile of HijackThis v1.98.1 Scan saved at 11:11:47 PM, on 4/5/2006 Platform: Windows XP SP2 (WinNT 5.01.2600) MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP2 (6.00.2900.2180) Running processes: C:\WINDOWS\System32\smss.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\winlogon.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\services.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\lsass.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\spoolsv.exe C:\WINDOWS\Explorer.EXE C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgcc.exe C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NvMixer\NVMixerTray.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliType Pro\type32.exe C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\point32.exe C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exe C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe C:\Program Files\NetZero\exec.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\hpobnz08.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgamsvr.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\hpotdd01.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgupsvc.exe C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgemc.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\pctspk.exe C:\WINDOWS\System32\svchost.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\hpoevm08.exe C:\WINDOWS\system32\HPZipm12.exe C:\Program Files\NetZero\exec.exe C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\Bin\hpoSTS08.exe C:\Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe C:\Documents and Settings\Dan Olivo\My Documents\Acting\HijackThis.exe R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Bar = http://my.netzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://my.netzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Default_Search_URL = http://my.netzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch R1 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main,Search Page = http://my.netzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch R0 - HKLM\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = http://my.netzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchURL,(Default) = http://my.netzero.net/s/search?r=minisearch R3 - URLSearchHook: URLSearchHook Class - {37D2CDBF-2AF4-44AA-8113-BD0D2DA3C2B8} - C:\Program Files\NZSearch\SearchEnh1.dll O2 - BHO: AcroIEHlprObj Class - {06849E9F-C8D7-4D59-B87D-784B7D6BE0B3} - C:\Program Files\Adobe\Acrobat 5.0\Reader\ActiveX\AcroIEHelper.ocx O2 - BHO: (no name) - {53707962-6F74-2D53-2644-206D7942484F} - C:\Program Files\Spybot - Search & Destroy\SDHelper.dll O2 - BHO: SSVHelper Class - {761497BB-D6F0-462C-B6EB-D4DAF1D92D43} - C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\ssv.dll O2 - BHO: Google Toolbar Helper - {AA58ED58-01DD-4d91-8333-CF10577473F7} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar2.dll O3 - Toolbar: ZeroBar - {F0F8ECBE-D460-4B34-B007-56A92E8F84A7} - C:\Program Files\NetZero\Toolbar.dll O3 - Toolbar: &Google - {2318C2B1-4965-11d4-9B18-009027A5CD4F} - c:\program files\google\googletoolbar2.dll O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [AVG7_CC] C:\PROGRA~1\Grisoft\AVGFRE~1\avgcc.exe /STARTUP O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NVMixerTray] "C:\Program Files\NVIDIA Corporation\NvMixer\NVMixerTray.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NeroFilterCheck] C:\WINDOWS\system32\NeroCheck.exe O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [type32] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliType Pro\type32.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [IntelliPoint] "C:\Program Files\Microsoft IntelliPoint\point32.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [RemoteControl] "C:\Program Files\CyberLink\PowerDVD\PDVDServ.exe" O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [SunJavaUpdateSched] C:\Program Files\Java\jre1.5.0_06\bin\jusched.exe O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [MSMSGS] "C:\Program Files\Messenger\msmsgs.exe" /background O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [NetZero_uoltray] C:\Program Files\NetZero\exec.exe regrun O4 - HKCU\..\Run: [spc_w] "C:\Program Files\NZSearch\nzspc.exe" -w O4 - Global Startup: hp psc 2000 Series.lnk = C:\Program Files\Hewlett-Packard\Digital Imaging\bin\hpobnz08.exe O4 - Global Startup: hpoddt01.exe.lnk = ? Find him a better ISP that doesn't require bloated, Java-laden software to be installed. I'd lay odds that uninstalling Netzero will fix it.

Glc,
Its funny that you say that because I have been googling for hours and I saw a fix where the person just uninstalled java and it seemed to make the problem go away. What would a person do in the case where the needed the java for other applications? Also, he was using the machine without any problems under Win2k with less ram of course and never got this particular error. I wonder if it is a Netzero, XP issue? What about updating java to the latest version? He is planning in getting SBC yahoo DSL soon so I guess thats a good thing. What do you think about the DISABLE THIRD PARTY BROWSER EXTENSIONS and the fact that it seems to have worked ok so far. Is that just a workaround for the time being and if and when he does get SBC he might need that enabled if he decides to install their bloatware? I work on so many machines with SBC DSL and people insist that they want the software. I guess they just like the personalized eye candy. Last edited by edrod13; 04-06-2006 at 09:22 AM. |

That's just a workaround - it will disable all toolbars.
The SBC software is just as bad but it does not HAVE to be installed. |
