Windows Defender Update

I have the computer set to automatically notify me of any updates. Well yesterday I get the usual Exclamation mark down on the taskbar telling me that there is an update for Defender #1.14.1389.7 so I install it like always. A few mintes later I get the same message. Assuming that I did something wrong the first time, I install it again. Well this happens about three more times, so I go into Windows Update site and delete the part about automatically notifying me about updates. Now, today I went into the Windows Update site to see if there are any critical updates that I might need. Guess what-it tells me that I have chosen to HIDE the Defender Update 1.14.1389.7, and that I need to install it. So I say OK, lets install it again. Then I turn on automatic updates. A few minuted later I get this exclamation mark in the task bar saying that the Defender update is available for download. What is going on, and how can I stop this nonsense ?

Must be a bad update if both of you have the same problem. Just hide that update and don't worry about it, there should be a new one coming out soon anyway.

Bump^^^
There is a new update out now, but that still did NOT fix the problem.

I did some research here: http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=915105, and deleted the definition file as the KB sugested, but still no update.

I completely removed WD, and DL'd the latest WD posted. This time I made sure I installed it to the "C:\Program Files" (which is not my default programs directory where I had WD installed previously)...and I still can't get updated.

I found this newsgroup:
http://www.microsoft.com/athome/secu...xp=&sloc=en-US
...and I noticed there are a lot of people experencing this same problem.

It seems Microsoft knows of the problem...a quote from the page listed in the link above
Quote:
STATUS
Microsoft has confirmed that this is a problem in the Microsoft products that are listed in the "Applies to" section (that "Applies to" section...has most of MS OS including XP pro & home).
note to Mod's: this thread should probably be in the security forum

Remember, Defender is still in it's BETA phase. Issues and bugs are bound to come with the territory.

I went through this a while back and it took me ages to find the answer, hope you guys haven't been waiting too long!

Click - Start > Run > Msiexec /x {A5CC2A09-E9D3-49EC-923D-03874BBD4C2C} (either type or paste into box) > OK. You'll be asked confirmation to uninstall - YES.

Now run update on Windows Defender.

It is a problem with the definitions file, thought they may have fixed it by now. Keep that file name handy, you may need to run it again, I did.

Yes I have done that...that is what KB915105 instructed to do, but it didn't work for me.
