Smile Startup/Bios problem

I am having problems on two of my computers I believe could be virus related, not positive though. I was having trouble with my compaq 5225 (error messages, unexpected restarts, dll's missing) after a clean install of windows ME, then my second compaq 5000US started shutting down for no reason. They are on a home network through a lynksys router. I tried a clean install of Windows XP on the 5000US and I am getting the error IRQ_NOT_LESS_OR_EQUAL, and "The system flash rom has been corrupted. I have tried rompaqs downloaded from compaq, they don't seem to take, missing drivers or files or something. I want to do fresh installs on both and have ordered recovery disk for 5000us and new windows 95 disk for the 5225, and am waiting patiently for them. but can't seem to get things up and running without problems, errors and missings files. How do I install a fresh bios, I thought I have read somewhere to pull the battery and that would reset the bios? Anyone have any ideas?

If you want to set the BIOS back to the factory default settings, you can remove the battery on the motherboard then place it back it. You can also use a jumper to short out the pins momentarily next to the BIOS chip.

While I do not know the solution to the problem you are posting, I think that resetting the BIOS won't really do anything for you.

I'd stay tuned for suggestions from other members....
