backing up boot.ini

I would like to edit my boot.ini to offer me the option of booting in safe mode without having to press f8. My question what files do I need to make backup copies of and if something goes wrong how do I use these backups to boot the pc using the original boot.ini ?

I am running Windows XP Home.

Actually it's pretty much a failsafe to be able to add the safe mode option. http://www.xpforum.co.uk/forums/faqs...boot-menu.html or http://www.theeldergeek.com/add_safe..._boot_menu.htm will give you directions on how to adding the safemode option.
