please help make my startup faster

can someone please help make my start up faster? When I turn on my pc it asks me for to press f1 to begin loading up, then the motherboard window comes up and it takes forever and then lastly the windows xp loading window....when it finally shows my desktop it takes another 2minutes to load up.....

please help, and thanks in advance

How many things are in the startup folder under all programs and in the msconfig utility startup tab??

Normally, you're asked to press F1 OR check your bios for a problem. Have you checked there for unidentified or misidentified hardware? You may have a defective part like a cd drive that is causing this fault and slow boot.

Then why are you being prompted to press F1? That's a fault override indication. What else does the prompt say?

Could you tell us if this is a name brand computer or a home built one.

Could you please post the complete system specs for this computer. Please list the parts by brand and model including the power supply.

What is the Ultra DMA setting reported under Start/Control Panel/System/Device Manager/Primary IDE ? It could have dropped down to PIO mode due to hard disk errors, and that mode will seriously slow down any hard disk activity
