Angry Fire Freeing a com port

I am trying to reconfigure my wife's laptop. I want to use Com 1 port that the infrared device uses. I have never nor will use infrared. The sewing machine that she is trying to drive wants a com port from 1 to 4 and the connecting device, a keyspan, jumps to Com 7. I have disabled and uninstalled the infrared device but when I reboot, it reinstalls itself. How can I get rid if it for good? Then, set the keyspan to Com port 1?

It is an HP laptop, running Win XP sp2. The Keyspan is US-19HS.

Thanks,

Mikel

Instead of uninstalling, disable it in the device manager. That way it won't tie up resources and it won't reinstall either.
