Slow, Slow, Slow
My girlfriend has a Toshiba Satellite laptop, with a Celeron running at 2.80 GHz with 192 MB Ram on XP, on Monday, it started running very slowly. It will run fine for a little while, and then, abruptly, freeze up for up to a minute or two, and then run normally. I've run Virus checkers, Spybot, and Adaware countless times. I even defragmented the drive, it's still running like this so...any ideas?

I'd seriously consider adding more RAM to that laptop...192MB of RAM isn't nearly enough for WinXP to run smoothly. Minimum I'd use is 512MB.

It's about 25% full.
And yeah, I've thought it needed more RAM too, but this is the first I've seen how much it has. Last edited by Obstacle2; 04-19-2006 at 10:42 AM. Reason: wrong number |

Ok, it was running fine, then it started this up again. Could this possibly be a cooling problem? I've noticed the vents are some surfaces of the computer are rather warm to the touch. And if it were to be a cooling problem, how can I cool her down?

Open up Task Manager to see if any processes jump to near 100% during the slowdowns.

Another thing to look for is how much the hard drive led stays lit when it seems to freeze.
