Question on upgrading windows 98
I have an older computer I would like to upgrade to windows XP home edition. I would like to know if the windows upgrade edition is any better than the windows OEM, does one have any advantages over the other. As far as any files I have in windows 98 they aren't important so it doesn't matter if I save them or not. Thank you.

I'd say getting an OEM disc from newegg is your best bet. Then you don't have to worry about keeping the old 98 discs handy, as it's a full install version. Is your old computer capable of handling XP?

you might want to do some compatiability checks before installing xp,
there are some minium requirements on the ram and cpu your using. |

I would go with the OEM an a clean harddrive. Also the OEM is actually cheaper than the upgrade.

Thank you I'm sure I can upgrade it. The processor is an AMD 350 k6 with 256 mb of ram, I'll go for the OEM version.

256megs of ram is small for XP, should try to find some more ram.

You're clearing the hardware requirements for WinXP, but not by much. The best you can do for yourself is add memory, but don't expect the machine to run XP very fast.

Find out how much more ram you machine can take and max it out.. If your machine can take 512 than you will be all set....In the futrue I would suggest posting you systems specs, as it will also help in simple questions as this....
