Cool Windows is burning? Interesting Errors.

Windows XP Pro
Custome Build
NEC DVD burnersx2
80 GB Western Hard Drive.

I'm not exactly sure what is going on at all. This problem just recently appeared
a few weeks ago, or at least that is when I first noticed it.

For some reason my Computer isn't allowing me to move 'any' files from 'any'
location into my D or E drives to burn onto a DVD or CD. Rather it comes back
saying that:
Quote:
Windows Encountered a problem when trying to copy this folder. What do you want windows to do?

Then list the Folder or File name and details and offers three options.
Retry / Skip / Cancel
Retry just repeats a nasty cylce of the error going on forever with no signs of
ever allowing me to copy. Skip does about the same thing as Cancel.

So I'm at a lost at this point. I'm not exactly sure where to go from here.
I remember at once point today I was able to copy files onto my E drive
for some unknown reason (Can't repeat no matter how I try.) and when I went
to burn Windows wouldn't recgonize that there was a Brand new DVD-RW
in my Drive.. even though I was trying to burn from my E drive and it was
demanding I go from my D drive? Either way both Drives had New DVD-RW's
in them.

----

On a completely different side note (Possibly) I was curious if these file types
were known for causing problems with the Windows OS. OGG - MLK - AVI types.

They are all Movie file types. Each is fairly large ranging from 200-300 MB's.
Mainly being Movies I have stored on my HD I'm trying to put onto the DVD's
(See the first problem.) But when I access the files and start browsing through
them and or moving/clicking on the files it causes my Windows OS to have a
fatal error which crashes my Windows... Curious to why this might be happening...

I'm guessing my best option is to completely reformat, but i'd rather be able
to move some of these files onto DVD's before doing so.. meaning I have to
solve the first problem before i can deal with the next.

Could you please list your drives as listed in My Computer, ?

Well I don't see that you mentioning BURNING Software anyware along your question/problem look at www.nero.com or similar( http://www.roxio.com/en/index.jhtml;...estid=10027617 )and you have to use special codec pack( http://home.hccnet.nl/h.edskes/mirror.htm ) to open this types of files in windows or a special player witch can open those files like: VLC media player - http://www.videolan.org/vlc/
EDIT: And could you please explain why would you install two same DVD burners in one computer?

My Computers -
Local DiskC)
Floppy: (A) - Strange because there is no floppy drive...?
CD Drive: (D)
CD Drive: (E)

Not using any burning software. Rather just trying to 'click' drag and drop
files from my C Drive into my D or E drive. However this method is not working.

As for the file types, I have the software to play them. The issue is when I
simpley pick up the file and move it around 'inside' the folder which causes
my Windows to crash unexpectedly. Very strage why it is only these types
of files. I'm guessing that the files are most likely corrupted in some manner
even though they work perfectly fine..?

And as for why I install the same DVD burners? Why not? And the burners do
work. I use Dvd-Cloner 3 to make backup copies of DVD's and it works just fine.

Ah, well I see I think. Playing around a tad I found that I can still transfer files
to my D or E drive 'given' that the disc is not a DVD disc, but rather a CD.

So how do I go about burning files to a DVD-RW then? Is there any special
programs to use that are 'free'? Free being the keyword as I'm not to excited
bout spending more money on more burner programs.

Reason I want to use DVD's is because I can fit a great deal more info on
a DVD then CD less disc's laying around the 'better' for me. I have to many.

Thanks!

Image or ISO maker…make perfect images of CD’d or DVD

Used most of them and they work really well. Only thing I will say about using DVD as a backup is that you have more data to loose if a disk becomes faulty. Might be a far better option to invest in a second hard-drive and use that as a
backup device.
