"I can't Tell What Type of Emoticons I use"

I do hope I'm posting this in the correct Place ?
I'm having a issue between two different operating Systems when it comes to
viewing the Emoticons on any board, that is when I'm running the drive with
Microsoft XP Home edition. Y'know how you put your cursor over the Emoticons, and it tells you what it stands for ? Well, when I'm on drive C:
that's the one with Windows Home Edition on it, I can't see or it want tell
me if it's a Wink of Laughing or what ever, when I point to it... ?

I've just noticed this lately and here is the kicker, when I'm running the Drive
with Windows XP Professional on it, I have no Problems like this what-so-ever ! This is very confusing to me and I really dunno why its happening either.
Could someone Please tell me what is going on between the two different
operating systems and why one will show the types of Emoticons (Windows XP Professional) and the other one will not (Windows XP Home edition) ?

I would appreciate it very much indeed.

It's not XP, I can see the explanation on XP Home. Could be something set differently in Internet Options in the Advanced tab.

Emoticons, such as on Internet boardsI really don't use any chat application e.g. MSN Yahoo or AOL at all.
I'm talking like my own Forum I built and forums like Rant Rant and like this tech form right here and I'm also a member of http://www.Forumclick.com/ ...

I did check the settings on both drives when it comes to the settings in Internet Explorer and they all seem to be exactly the same. I couldn't find a difference at all. ?? I'm just wondering which setting it could be so I could correct it! Both operating systems are on the Same Computer, they're just own different drives, I created a boot loader and was able to load Windows XP Professional on my second drive. There has got to an answer to this issue?
I know I can still use Windows XP Home edition even though I can't see the
Emoticons when I'm on drive C: the one with Windows XP Home edition.

Just looking for an answer that will resolve this Please...

Say flanzig1 you say it's not XP, and the fact that you could see the explanation on XP Home? What you saw was it relating exactly to not being able to see emoticons on chat boards and the like? I never knew about Windows Home having a Site that explains different Issues such as I'm having with this one? I did check the setting on both operating systems (The Browsers) and they both appear to have the same settings in the advance tab.
Y'know I'm aware that I can still use the drive with home edition without being able to see the emotions but its very aggravating to say the least.

Okay Statica, I get your idea and Yep, I can drop the decorations as ya called it, I only use it cause it helps me to read it coz I've got glaucoma and its hard to see the post at times. I hope this type of post is more to the liking for everyone here at the board. I hope someone can come up will a solution to this issue coz it's really bothering me to no end Statica..

If you want I will try and explain if all over again, I can not see the smileys or emoticons when I'm using the Microsoft Home edition and I can when I'm using Windows XP Professional... It's a Gateway 700XL series 6000 that I'm using for a computer and I really dunno why its not working on one drive and then working just fine on the other one.

There I hope that is more readable and I can get an answer to this issue. It does mean alot to me Statica...

Regarding your not being able to see emoticons, as Kareeser mentioned, it doesn't seem to be an issue with XP but with settings on your web browser. Some queries I have about the issue:
* For WinXP Home: Have you tried using the forums with an alternate browser like Firefox?
* When posting a message do you see the emoticons in the boxes:

* Have you done the standard solutions like clearing/increasing cache for IE? Spyware scans?

Let me try to clarify the emoticons issue, I can see them while I'm on the Windows XP Home edition. The problem is when I point to them it doesn't tell me exactly what the emoticon stands for eg: Wink Shock Roll or embarrassed etc; Just like that one there I do know I should be able to see that coz I always could before a few days back.
On the queries,
* about using a alternate browser, Nope I haven't tried that as of yet?
* yes I can see the emoticons in the Boxes I just can't see the definitions of what type of emotion it's as I've stated. That's the Issue here.....
* When I point to them with my cursor it does not say wink or cool and etc:
* I was gonna try MSN browser and was going to add it through control panel add remove windows components, I was shocked to find out they want X amount of money even to use their MSN browser now. I've never heard of that B-4 then. I have downloaded the beta version of Internet Explorer 7 to the desk top but I've not installed it as of yet? What's you opinion on the Internet Explorer 7 beta version, the latest one? Just thought I'd ask you !
* On cleaning the cache on the IE browser if you mean cleaning out the cookies, Yes I've done that one and I run anti-spy ware scans ever time I get off the internet with Zonelabs Pro Firewall & I also use Pest patrol from CA associate called Pest-patrol. The scans with Zonelabs always finds tracking cookies and deletes them and I've never found any spyware or malware scanning with Pest Patrol either.
Well, I surely hope I've managed to clarify what I'm talking about here and I hope you have an answer for me as well Statica...

* This might mean something Statica, when I was on the drive with the XP Home edition, I opened the Zonelabs and when ya point to the different programs in the overview, it tells you what is listening to your PC, as I remember it, I don't recall it even telling me what they were when I pointed to them either. I dunno if that would help with this issue but I thought it couldn't hurt to mention it coz that did seem strange to me too.
* Just guessing but maybe its a setting from within the ZoneLabs itself ???

In case it still isn't clear what TennesseeStud's trying to fix, maybe I can help clear it up some, as I've talked with him on his other forum about this. I believe what he's trying to turn back on is called the tooltip box. It's that little info box that pops up when you hover the mouse over an icon for a little bit. Like, for instance, if you hold your cursor over this icon for a little bit, that small box comes up that says "big grin". He's missing those boxes for some reason. I looked for him the other night and the only way I found to turn it on or off was through a registry hack.....so, in other words, I'm not sure how the heck it got turned off in the first place, unless it was a bad install. Would a repair install for XP Home maybe fix this?

Hey Juppy, thanks a million for helping me explain just exactly what is going on and what needs to be fix on the one troubled drive (Windows XP Home edition) Y'know I was thinking that maybe a repair on Windows XP Home might resolve this issue although I really hate to go all through that again. It's very time consuming and having to sit here for a couple of hrs does bother me quite a bit. "I never knew that feature was called (The Tooltip box) till I just read it here. I did go over to Microsoft support and they wand even $35.00 just for a email request, can ya believe that one?
Just what is the old world coming to besides an end.

Getting back to you on this same Issue, the other day you ask me if I'd tried an alternate browser such as FireFox, well I'm on it now and yes here on your forum here at PCMECH I can see the definition of all the emoticons when I point to them with my cursor.
What is strange about this solution is the fact that I can see the definition of the same emoticons on my forum to the side of the window when I'm posting but after I post, I can't see the definition then. No matter if I put them in with the keyboard or if I click on them with the mouse and enter them that way.
I even went so far as to install the BETA VERSION for IE # 7 and with that running I have no better luck then I did with the regular IE browser? I just thought I'd bring you up to date on this issue. If you have anymore solutions for this issue, I'd be grateful and would try them out too. Thanks again and have a great day Statica.

Let's revisit whether this is a Browser issue or Windows issue. I have checked multiple systems running XP Home, Pro and 2000 Pro and with IE6, IE7 and Firefox. Not only are the contents of the emoticon displayed when the cursor is held over them, several other items also display contents. For example, the red X in the top right says "close" and next to it are "restore up (or down)" and "minimize" or "maximize". Additionally, several items in the Links bar at the top will display the meaning of the icons when you hover over them. Now the test - this same type of diplay regarding the red X shows up in Windows Explorer. So the question for TennesseeStud is this, will the other aforementioned items display their meaning when you hover over them? How bout in Windows Explorer? Do they "work" there? If none of them are showing the meaning of the icon, then this is a system issue rather than a browser issue. A good test would be opening the Control Panel and placing your cursor over any icon on the page. A full explanation of the icon should be displayed.

Say Jon, Panama Red, I certainly appreciate your expertise in these issues I'm having. unfortunately right now I'm not on Windows XP Home edition so I can't check out the different examples you've given in your post but I will reboot and come back up here with Windows XP Home edition and tell you if they do indeed show the explanation example like, Red X saying Close, or if the maximize or restore will show when I hover over them with my cursor. Well, I finally made it back up here PM and what your talking about if the other icons show the info when I point to 'em, the answer is yes! I'm right now on the affected system and browser (Windows XP Home and IE 7 Beta) and when I point to the red x or the minimize or restore in the browser it shows exactly the definitions you were talking about. Also on the tool bar of the browser (IE7 BETA) it shows what each icon stands for when I hover over them too.

I did open windows explorer and when I point to the different icons in the window on the right, it does tell me what each icon contains therein. I also went to control panel as you suggested and when I hover each and ever icon in there examples, System, add remove program, administrative tools, mouse and keyboard etc: The caption does show up telling me what each of those icons are for. Now, I should also add that as I hover over the emoticons on the right side here where you make your post, I don't get the definition of either of 'em? I really hope this helps you to help me and it clarifies things up some what?

Let me add this while I'm thinking of it, when I was on Mozilla FireFox the other day and using it I could see the definitions of the icons on the board here before I entered them into the text of the post but not after. Hopefully this will help you trouble-shoot this issue with me amigo. I surely hope so anyway. BTW, I did take care of the CTF LOADER encountering an error and it seems to be working find now. I'm just wanting to get this issue solved and I got CTF LOADER Solved with Panama Red's help. It's difficult to make out alot of the post when you only have 20/60 in one eye and the other one isn't much better. Mind you now I'm not looking for any pity for sure. I'm merely pointing out my handicapped situation when it comes to vision.

Again thanks GLC and I still don't have the issue with emoticons solved yet? I was waiting for PM Panama Red to get back to me on this. Right now I'm using Mozilla Fox and I can see the definitions on all the smileys even after I've posted 'em in the message. I can't do that with IE6 or IE7 Beta version...

This is in fact a strange issue and I might add Weird too. I've never ran across this issue in all my yrs of using Computers.

Looks like it's browser related TS but I haven't found anything to cause it. I can't seem to duplicate the issue on any of my pc's. I'll try some more ideas tomorrow and let ya know if I make any progress.

I've got to agree with you as far as it seemingly is browser related and not a system issue PM. I do appreciate your help in this matter as well as your fix it on the CTF LOADER in the other Thread. That work-out just fantastic and I'm truly grateful PM.

I surely hope you'll be able to duplicate this issue with one of your machines and that way you can tell me as "you said" the reason and the solution. I must say again, PM I really appreciate your help the up most and I'm indebted to you for sure.

I just wanted to post an update on the issue pending here on the emoticons and not being able
to see their definitions. I did a (R) installation on Windows Home Edition the problem drive with this issue. Had no Problem running the (R) installation and I've gotten all the updates
I had to get all over again including SVC pack 2, Guess what? I still can see the different Id's
on the emoticons with IE6 but I can with Mozilla FireFox, I have both browser open right now up
here on this forum. I can see 'em with Mozilla FireFox, but can't see them with IE6 W/updates
installed too. This definitely Tells me that your scenario about it being a browser issue
is definitely got to be True PM. I hope you have had some-kind of luck and have a suggestion
for me on this issue for sure. Thanks again and have a better day than I've had lately PM!

I just wanted to add this update to the issue with the emoticons and not being able
to see their definitions. Well, I fix it last night and this morning, I did a complete re-install on
the troublesome dive (C) and I put Windows XP Pro on it too. I am HAPPY AS HELL
