Uninstalling Windows 98

Hey guys, one more quick question for ya.

I was able to install Windows 2000 Pro on that old computer that was giving me hassles in Windows 98, and I wanted to get rid of 98 because I'm sure I won't be using it anymore. So what's the proper way to delete Windows 98? Can I just delete the C:\WINDOWS directory, or is it more complex than that? I'd imagine it would be, because it's never simple when it comes to me and computers.

Thanks for your future responses.

Boot from the Windows 2000 CD, and when it asks which partition to install Windows onto, delete the current partition and create a new one. Make sure you back up your data first, though. And format the new partition using NTFS, not FAT.

Depends on how it set up. If you go directly to 2K without having to make a choice, then yes, that should be sufficient. Just make sure that it didn't overlay into the windows directory. If I recall correctly 2k normally goes into winnt.

Well whenever I bootup, It does ask which OS to start, Win2K or Win98SE, so if that's the case, is there a different process? And yeah, 2k is installed in C:\WINNT.

thanks

You will need to do 2 things - delete c:\windows, then boot with the 2K CD and do a fast repair to fix the boot.ini. Choose repair, then choose emergency repair process, then choose fast repair.
