Mfc42.dll
What is this file and does it have anything to do with windows xp?
Latly, for almost all the applications i try to open a message comes up saying.... The application has failed to start because MFC42.DLL was not found. Its gets really annoying because i cant open a lot of things anymore. My world of warcraft updater for the game also doesnt open and now i cant update the game. How am i gonna play????? If the file is a windows xp file, is there anyway i can get it from my cd and then replace it with the other one that is missing? Thanks

Looks like it's a required .dll. See here:
http://www.liutilities.com/products/...library/mfc42/ I think I'd use SFC to correct the issue. http://www.updatexp.com/scannow-sfc.html |

If you want to try just replacing the file itself, you can download it HERE. That file is zipped so you'll have to unzip it to get the file. Try putting the mfc42.dll file under C:\WINDOWS\SYSTEM32\ and see if it helps anything. If something else like a virus deleted it in the first place though, it may just delete the new one again until you find the root of the problem.

Chrck the c/windows/system 32 file and see if there is a copy in there. Norton might have deleted it when you uninstalled it. There should be a copy of it in c/windows/service pack/i386 that you can copy to system 32 if that is the case.
As far as possible malware, I found a reference to Xupiter on the Microsoft site. Also references to several other programs and mfc42.dll errors. Check here and see if anything fits the problem.

Thanks a lot guys. The file must have been deleted. Now if it gets deleted again its probably a virus.
