WinXp x64 disc wont boot...
Due to a few problems, I want to delete the partitions and reformat my new self-built pc. I have already successfully done so previously, without any problems. I now perform the exact same steps, but now my computer wont boot the WinXp x64 installation disc. Ive done everything like previously, Cdrom is 1st boot device, Hard drive 2nd(even tryed it 3rd, and so on), and all the other BIOS stuff that goes with it. For some reason my pc seems to keep booting the Hard drive, no matter what the BIOS is set to. I booted with this disc before, why cant I boot from it now?
To go further in depth, the disc is a Windows Xp x64 professional installation CD. Thanks to anyone willing to help... |

Did you move any hardware around inside the case and maybe unplug something?

A dirty cd or cd drive could be the cause. One little spec of dust.......

Yo uhave to make sure its a full install before you boot to it because i think upgrades require a different process.

No its not an upgrade. Its a true windows xp x64 professional disc, and it is fully installed. Its a new self-built computer and I put winxp x64 on it and never anything else. It works great besides a few little problems I would like to try to correct. Blanking it out would be the easiest option if I could just get this disc to boot.
Like I said eariler Ive already successfully booted this disc, deleted a partition, and reformated my hard drive, its just not doing it now for some odd reason. The disc is an OEM version of Windows XP x64 professional that was bought a Newegg.com. Would anyone know why this disc is not booting? Thanks for the help... |

BTW, Ive done upgrade discs before. All the ones Ive done let you boot the disc, but you have to insert the orginal OS disc before it will install the OS you are upgrading to.
This is certainly not the case... Oh yeah, the disc is brand new and 100% clean and scratch free. The optical drive is the same way. Thanks again... Last edited by jpslash; 05-10-2006 at 02:53 PM. |

Well Ive fixed my PC through other means, but that still doesnt solve the booting problem. I will more than likely need to reformat one of these days, and booting this disk is the key. Has anyone had a problem like this? Does anyone have a suggestion, or better yet, a solution?

You could always zero fill the hard drive with manufacturer's utilities or DBAN. This will render the hard drive totally unbootable.
