Up grade OS

Would it be better to buy WindowsXP home and do an install on a pc that has windows millennium? What I am thinking about doing is cleaning the hard drive and re-installing XP home instead of millennium. Thanks

Would it be better than what? Personally, I would suggest doing it as I can't stand that edition of Windows. Though, you would lose all your data (unless you back up what's important first) and would have to go through the process of reinstalling all your compatible applications all overagain.

YES.

Millenium to XP upgrades are a mess. You would be much better off doing a clean install of XP. Just save whatever you want from the ME computer on CD or to a USB external hard drive. Be sure to scan all saved information with an anti-virus program before introducing any of it to the newly installed OS. No sense in infecting a brand new computer.

XP likely contains most of the drivers for your ME computer so you won't have to manually load many. Sometimes you will have to search for drivers for older ethernet cards, modems or sound cards but nine times out of ten XP already has the drivers to run these devices.

Delboy, is the machine you are thinking of upgrading the one in your signature?
If it is, then XP will run very sweetly on that machine (I have upgraded quite a few of those machines to XP).
Can you give us a few more specs on your machine like sound card, lan card or modem, video card?

oops thread highjack sorry mods.
delboy can you start a thread of your own.
