Please help - problem with XP installation
I sure hope someone can help me with a problem that occurred during the installation of XP Home edition on my grandson's new computer. The computer specs are:
MB: ASUS A8N-e CPU: AMD 3200+ RAM: Kingston Value RAM 1 GB Optical drive: Lite-On It Model SH-165 HDD: Seagate Barracuda 80 GB Video card: EVGA e-GeForce 6600GT PSU: Antec Smart Power 2.0; 450 watt Keyboard Dell (Microsoft Natural) Case: Antec Sonata II I am in the process of installation XP Home edition, sp2. So far, I have completed the partitioning of the HDD and am in the process of completing the installation. Everything has been going normally, but when I got the to screen where I have to input a name and organization, I have discovered there is no communication between the keyboard and the computer. The connection is USB as is the mouse which is working normally. Can anyone suggest what to do? The computer is still running and I would like to get everything finished before he comes home from school today if at all possible. I would try another keyboard, but the only other one I have is a Logitech Desktop Pro and I think it has to be connected before the computer is turned on. Thanks for your help

USB keyboards and mice can be hot-plugged -- that is, plugged in and unplugged while the computer is running. Try unplugging and replugging the keyboard If that doesn't work, try going into the BIOS and turning on USB Legacy Support or USB Emulation (I'm not sure what this board's BIOS calls it). If nothing works, you may have to find a PS2 keyboard.

Is there an F-lock key on that keyboard? If it's enabled that could be your problem.
Otherwise I would start over with the ps2 keyboard. If he's home by 3:30 you should be done just as he walks in the door. edit : If legacy isn't enabled how would he get this far?
