XP boot problem
You may remember me(most likly not) but I'm currently having a problem with my XP installation and need some advice.
I just go internet again recently and since my XP installation was fresh from an old installation CD I needed to install SP2. So I did that and restarted the system like instructed. But when the windows started to load again this system shut down and I was given an error about a dll file called crypt32.dll the driver for Truecypt. It says the that checksum header of the file does not match the computed checksum. (It was originaly completed checksum but I reset the BIO's. The bio's almost completly configure themselfs) So my plan is to somehow get access to the harddrive and ether delete or replace the said .dll fill. I have a boot disk that allowes access to the A drive and my usb key so all I need now is a file that will allow me to use my harddrive in dos mode. Its an NTFS harddrive. I'll search the forums and will go head with my plan later today unless I get some alternate advice. So if you know anyway to help please post it here. |

Do you have your XP installation CD? If so, then you can use it to do a repair install. Boot from the CD, then select install (not the recovery console). It should find your current installation and allow you to do a repair install. You will have to reinstall SP2 after doing so, however.

You can use the recovery console by booting with the XP CD. There won't be USB support but there will be floppy support and basic DOS commands.
You could also slave the drive into another working XP computer. |

Ok well my plan ended up working. Using a utility called ntfs4dos I was able to gain complete access to the harddrive was able to copy a copy of cyrpt32.dll that I placed on my usbdrive to its folder and overwrite the corrupt one. Once I rebooted everything was fine.
