User profile not accessible

System: Windows XP Media Center, SP2. Modified to allow joining a domain.

Basically 2 users, me and my wife. I have no problems on my account. But about 50% of the time my wife tries to login, Windows comes back with an error that her profile information is inaccessible or corrupted, and goes and creates a default profile for her. I've investigated it, and it looks like something has a lock on her directories under Documents and Settings. Even though the permissions say that she has permission to access them, any attempt to do so gives an error message. The strange thing is that if I shut down the system and reboot, then log her in, she comes up in her own profile with no problems.

I've tried at various times during the day logging off my account and logging on to hers, and it always seems to come up just fine. It's just when she wants to do it for real! (usually in the evening).

I've never seen or heard of anything like this.

One other piece of info - there were originally two sets of logins, one on the local machine, from before I joined it to the domain, and then one on domain. I modified the registry settings to point the profile to the same place in both cases, so that we would have the same settings set up no matter which one we logged into, and changed the permissions list on the profile directory so that both users could access it. I've done this on both her profile and mine, and I have no trouble with mine. I don't know if that has anything to do with the problem or not.

Any help is appreciated. Thanks.
