PCAnywhere/Modem problem??

The PC is a Dell GX620 with Windows XP Professional. I installed PCAnywhere 11.0 on it. The PC recognises the modem and it is setup as a Host in PCAnywhere. However, when the remote dials in, it would not connect after negoiation. The modem make an initial beep sound and then was silent for 2 seconds before the high pitch modem sound starts. I think the problem is the "beep" sound. I am testing with a 3rd modem and they all behave the same way. I tested all the modems in Hyper Terminal and they all seemed to be working fine. So I think it must be the software. It could be PCAnywhere, or the OS.

Any suggestions?

Thanks.
