Adminstrator Account disappeared
As the computer geek at work (a hospital), a friend called me up today with a problem he is facing with his personal laptop.
He has been using it thru the default adminstrator account for the past year or so, since he bought it, yesterday he decided he should create a personalized account for himself, so he did. Next thing he knows, the new account account is the only one available at login and the adminstrator account disappeared from the logon screen, but he couldn't care less for that. The problem that he is facing is that the files in My Documents of the adminstrator account are now renedered off limit and he can't get them. Now how can he revert things to what they were or at least how can he get his files and put them in his new account. As far as i know he wasn't using a password to access the adminstrator account. What version of Windows does he have? XP Home, Pro, 2K?
If his logon screen lists the accounts to click on, instead of offering a username/password logon box, tell him to hit Ctrl+Alt+Del twice. That will bring up the logon box, where he can type in "Administrator" as the username and log in. |

OK neat
I was able to access the administrator account in a jiffy. But now everytime i turn the laptop on, it logs into the new account and i have to do the ctrl-alt-del thing to access the old one. Is there a way to cancel the new account, it is set to have admin rights. I tried deleting it thru the contol panel but it seems that it can't be done thru there, the option to delete the account isn't even there whether i'm logged in with the old one or the new one. I just wanna put it back to where it was. I don't want to reinstall all the software again into the new account. |

goto control panel > administrative tools > Computer management. Open the users and groups tree, find the user you want to delete, and delete it. Make sure you are logged in under the administrator account.
To get the ctrl+alt+del combo disabled, goto control panel > admin tools > local security settings. Open the local policies tree, select security options. Scroll thru the list till you find "Do Not Require Ctrl+Alt+Del" double click and disable. Last edited by DynamicTech; 05-24-2006 at 06:09 PM. |
